This blanket is partly (1 quarter) made from virgin wool from the Gotland sheep, which was shorn by the Vikings who appreciated its high-quality wool, and 3\/4 from lambswool. Lambswool is the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is also obtained from live sheep, usually in spring, as much as possible in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and fluffed before being dyed in wonderful pastel tones and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer.
