Cantina Tramin – Wine from South Tyrol
Cantina Tramin makes wine from South Tyrol and is located in the heart of South Tyrol in the wine village of Tramin. The classic cooperative was founded in 1898 by pastor Christian Schrott as South Tyrol's first cooperative and today has 300 members. These are families who have lived in South Tyrol for centuries and are deeply rooted in the region and in winemaking. Eleven grape varieties grow on 270 hectares around Tramin, Auer, Neumarkt and Montan, at an altitude of 250 to 850 meters above sea level, on clay, gravel, limestone, and volcanic porphyry soils.
Even though many hands are involved in the laborious cultivation of the vineyards, ensuring grapes of optimal physiological ripeness, it is cellar master Willi Stürz, who has been responsible for Cantina Tramin's wines for 20 years and has found his destined place in life here, who, like no other, is able to transform the potential present in the grapes into wine of the highest quality, thus outstandingly shaping the wine style of the cooperative. A grape whisperer who has a particular understanding of Gewürztraminer.
Cantina Tramin – Green into the future
In 2010, Cantina Tramin moved into an impressive new building, which was built around the old winery building and curated by architect Werner Tscholl. It demonstrates a deep respect for nature as well as an appreciation for its members. An award-winning project inspired by the vine and its morphology. A design location whose structure is reminiscent of vine shoots and which integrates perfectly into the beauty of the landscape. It is primarily made of sustainable building materials such as steel, glass, and wood, which is painted green on the outside. Green energy is generated by a photovoltaic system on the roof of Cantina Tramin. A geothermal heat pump heats the building in winter and cools it in summer. Optimal conditions for winemaking have been created here. And with the vinotheque, a meeting point for the many wine tourists who can enjoy a wonderful view of Lake Kaltern with a glass of wine from Cantina Tramin.
