Orange is the colour of energy, zest for life and extravagance. In our Orange world of colour, you will find orange lemonade, carrot juice, sardines with orange, olive oil with mandarins, orange fruit spreads, apricot chutney and much more in brilliant orange.
Orange is the happiest colour in the spectrum – warmer than yellow, softer than red, optimistic, sociable, extravagant. Orange stands out, but not intrusively. Our Orange category brings together delicacies that bring exactly this mood to the table: carrot, orange, mandarin, apricot and pumpkin in one word.
Orange is the colour that shines towards us in the morning when we open the fridge and see the jam standing next to the butter. The colour of freshly squeezed juice, pumpkin soup in November, the sunset on the beach.
In colour psychology, orange stands for warmth and connection, for hospitality and enjoyment. Hindus wear it as a symbol of the spiritual; artists love it because it makes you feel cheerful without appearing gaudy.
For us, orange is the colour for people who like to laugh, enjoy eating together and like a drop more olive oil on their salad. Orange is sociable.
In our orange world, you will find gourmet food from France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Portugal and South Tyrol – all with an orange touch in the bottle, tin or contents.
From South Tyrol comes Kohl's Essence apple juice with carrot – a small work of art from the Kohl house, in which Thomas Kohl marries the power of the mountain carrot with his apple. From France, a few bottles of La Mortuacienne orange lemonade in the typical swing-top bottles.
From Italy, Alpe Pragas orange fruit spread, from Spain Azada olive oil with orange, from Portugal La Perle des Dieux sardines with orange. From Kerstin Krause's kitchen, carrot-ginger soup – spoonful by spoonful of autumn sun.
Orange ranges from pale apricot to bright carrot. Our range includes fruity oranges (apricot, orange, mandarin) and earthy oranges (carrot, pumpkin, ginger).
For breakfast, we like the fruity ones: Alpe Pragas organic orange fruit spread, Stekovics apricot fruit spread from Burgenland, a spoonful of orange blossom honey from Provence in yoghurt. For the evening, the earthy ones: a bowl of carrot-ginger soup with a glass of white wine.
For the aperitif in the first hour of sunshine, a dollop of pesto calabrese on bread, alongside a glass of orange lemonade with a dash of gin. Quite impressive.
Seven manufactories define our orange world – all with a personal face.
Thomas Kohl, the charming apple juice affineur from Unterinn on the Ritten, pressed the first single-varietal apple juice in South Tyrol. "A good juice shows the variety, not just the taste," explains Thomas. His Essence apple juice with carrot is a result of his inventive nature. At Alpe Pragas in Prags, the Alpinara family presses their fruit spreads from fruit that grows at an altitude of 1,450 metres; the orange taste is correspondingly intense: fruity, spicy and concentrated.
Johann and Erich Stekovics in the Burgenland Seewinkel region grow over three thousand varieties of tomatoes. "Every variety tells its own story," as Erich likes to emphasize. His apricot and tomato chutney are a showcase of this diversity. And in Provence, with the Mathieu family from the house of Beauharnais, the orange blossom honey comes from a region where the bees know the orange blossoms, says Mathieu, and you can taste it.
Orange plays well with salty counterparts. A piece of mature Comté with orange blossom honey alongside – the two get along well. A slice of fresh baguette, topped with duck pâté with orange from Beauharnais, a touch of coarse mustard – and a glass of fruity white wine.
Il Tinello orange balsamic vinegar goes well with pasta – a few drops over roasted chicken, accompanied by a salad with La belle-iloise sardines with Nice olives. For a picnic, a lobster mousse with cognac in a small tin, served with pretzel sticks and an orange Le Creuset wine cooler so the rosé stays cold.
For dessert? A bar of Berger dark chocolate filled with whisky-orange – slightly bitter, tart, warm. That's what autumn tastes like.
An orange crate acts like a small campfire in winter and a sun umbrella in summer. Our tip for a hostess gift: orange lemonade, duck pâté with orange, orange fruit spread and a neon-orange tea towel from Hamburg – all in a wood-wool crate.
For the coffee table, the Berger dark chocolate whisky-orange and a Castelbel Ginger Orchid soap for the washbasin. The extra touch: Lang wine vinegar dip with apricot to round off the crate with a surprise.
