Windspiel – Gin from the Eifel
Windspiel Gin is a gin from Germany, specifically from the Volcanic Eifel region. Idyllic nature, good water quality, and potatoes grown in volcanic soil are the raw materials for this premium gin. In 2013, founders Sandra and Denis set out to produce their own gin from their own potatoes from Weilerhof, a potato spirit with a regional character. They found Holger Borchers, an experienced distiller, who, with 12 botanicals, created the perfect premium dry gin, macerated and distilled using elaborate, traditional handcraft. In 2014, the gin from Daun in the Eifel region was released commercially. Windspiel Gin achieved a breakthrough; this dry, balanced, handcrafted gin remains the Windspiel juniper spirit flagship to this day, even internationally.
Windspiel Gin – regional potatoes and 12 botanicals
Besides juniper, citrus notes from lemon peel and ginger play a major role, lavender contributes floral notes, and coriander, cinnamon bark, and pepper provide a slightly woody spice. The name Windspiel connects gin and potatoes with Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, who was not only a big fan of the humble potato but also a friend of the greyhound. This elegant dog breed adorns the sophisticated Windspiel bottle and indicates the high quality of the gin and, wonderfully, a certain degree of luxury.
