Sel de Guérande with Espelette Pepper – L'Atelier du Sel

The Sel de Guérande with Espelette Pepper from l'Atelier du Sel is French Sel de Guérande IGP from Brittany, enriched with Espelette pepper. The sea salt from Guérande is carefully harvested by the two independent "paludiers" (salt marsh workers) Gilles and Matthieu using traditional artisanal methods in the salt pans in the Bay of Aranlec. The profession of paludier is passed down from father to son, preserving the knowledge of the art of salt harvesting, so it's no surprise that Gilles and Matthieu are uncle and nephew.

Before the Sel Marin Gris, the grey sea salt, is flavored with Espelette pepper, it undergoes an additional drying process using an innovative solar dryer, complementing the natural drying that has already taken place. It is not fully dried, but rather to the extent that a certain natural moisture is retained.

The Sel de Guérande with Espelette Pepper perfectly exudes the unmistakable aroma of the Protected Designation of Origin Espelette pepper, a mild chili variety from the Basque Country, and wonderfully seasons roasted chicken, marinated sardines, tuna, and salmon steaks, as well as red meat, vegetable stir-fries, and omelets.

L'Atelier du Sel – Sel de Guérande with Wild Garlic

The Sel Gris Marin de Guérande, coarse sea salt, which is harvested every summer in the basins of the L'Atelier du Sel saltworks according to ancient tradition, is created by the interplay of sun and wind and the artisanal work of the paludier.

Unlike refined industrial salts, Guérande salt is neither washed nor chemically treated and contains no additives (fluoride, nitrite, iodine, pouring agents or anti-caking agents). The Guérande salt from l'Atelier du Sel naturally dehydrates in the sun, so it contains magnesium and other trace elements. It is easily distinguished by its floral scent, its geometric crystals with angular shapes, and is the basis for this flavored Sel de Guérande sea salt.

The Sel de Guérande from L'Atelier du Sel is a protected designation of origin salt and bears the blue and yellow official seal. The special taste of Sel de Guérande with Espelette Pepper is appreciated by gourmets.
