Ooni Pizza Ovens | The Story of a Problem Solver

As is often the case, an outstanding product innovation like the Ooni pizza oven is the solution to a problem. A problem that everyone who loves pizza knows, and whose previous methods haven't quite matched the taste of their favorite pizzeria. Kristian Tapanaho and his wife Darina Garland knew this challenge all too well. Kristian loved baking pizza but was frustrated by the inconsistent results. The pizza stone in the oven simply didn't get hot enough to achieve the same result as an Italian restaurant could. So, the Scottish couple set out to find a wood-fired pizza oven for the garden and spent countless hours in hardware stores and specialty shops in their area. Everything they found was expensive and bulky. No mobile pizza oven was suitable for outdoor use. This was not how they envisioned solving their problem. So Kristian, who was neither an inventor nor a product designer, began with a series of sketches, many prototypes, and countless attempts to develop a perfect, affordable, and portable wood-fired pizza oven himself, launching the Ooni pizza oven in 2012.

What happened next was incredible: the world had been waiting for exactly this solution. The buyers in the hardware stores were thrilled, and so were the customers who bought an Ooni pizza oven. Finally, an affordable, portable oven that could achieve truly high temperatures.

Today, about ten years later, Ooni is a multi-award-winning company with around 250 employees. Its outdoor pizza ovens are award-winning and sold all over the world, providing many passionate amateur pizza bakers with the experience of a truly good, homemade pizza. In numerous Ooni fan groups, e.g., on Facebook, pizza fans have networked into a global community, exchanging experiences and recipes for great pizzas.
