Fangst – Cockles – Cockles in Rapeseed Oil

The Fangst Hjertmusling are cockles from the Danish Limfjord. The mussels are processed in Copenhagen. Hand-shelled and cleaned, they are first lightly smoked before being preserved in cold-pressed rapeseed oil from the island of Bornholm and stored in small tins. Fangst's cockles are a truly local product that Fangst founders Martin, Rasmus, and Mikkel are rightly proud of.

Hjertmusling – Cockles from the Limfjord

The founders of Fangst have been familiar with Scandinavian food culture since childhood. Martin, who grew up in a family of biologists, birdwatchers, and fish farmers, wants to contribute to making good food from nature's resources, such as the cockles from the Limfjord. Rasmus' home is the mussel beds of the Ise- and Roskilde-fjords; even as a child, he wanted to know more about edible nature, flora and fauna. Mikkel, as an experienced chef and product developer, is responsible for the recipes of the first Fangst canned fish products with his broad knowledge of Nordic ingredients and processing methods.

The cockles, Latin: Cerastoderma edule, for the Fangst canned fish come from the Limfjord, an impressive 1500 km² cultural landscape connecting the North Sea with the Kattegat. Not only are mussels caught in the Limfjord – a large part of Denmark's mussel fishing licenses pertain to this body of water – but Denmark's last oyster beds are also found here. This speaks to the excellent water quality. In the cold waters of the Limfjord, the cockle, Danish Hjertmusling, grows very slowly. Only then does it develop its delicate flavor and a pleasant, firm texture.

Fangst wants to bring cockles back to the plates of Danes and the steadily growing community of tinned fish enthusiasts. Fangst Nordic Canned Seafood brings the abundance of seafood from the Nordic ocean, preserved in tins, as a delicious meal or as snacks from the North, to your table.

Fangst
