Königskind Apple Strudel Fruit Spread is a dessert-like spread made from 73% apples from the Oberberg region, with breadcrumbs, real butter, almonds, dates, and a generous splash of baked apple liqueur – handmade by Uwe König in his small gourmet manufactory in the Oberberg region. The full aroma of a freshly baked apple strudel, brought to your bread and enjoyable all year round.

The Apple Strudel Fruit Spread from Königskind is a dessert-like spread from the Oberberg region. With 73% Oberberg apples, sugar, wheat flour breadcrumbs, butter, baked apple liqueur (contains alcohol), dates, water, almonds, lemon juice, and a pinch of spices, a multifaceted spread comes in a jar – without artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, or flavor enhancers. Uwe König takes all the ingredients of a classic apple strudel and transforms them into a bread spread.

Warm, sweet, and with cinnamon-almond-breadcrumb complexity

Once opened, the unmistakable scent of a freshly baked apple strudel rises – sweet, warm, slightly caramel-like, with a hint of cinnamon in the background and the typical almond notes that a good strudel needs. The color is a warm, medium golden brown with visible apple pieces, date slices, and the fine breadcrumbs that give the spread its rustic texture.

On the tongue, it begins with the full sweetness of the apples, then come the dates with their deep caramel sweetness, the ground almonds with their nutty depth, and the breadcrumbs that provide texture. The butter makes the spread creamy and round, and the baked apple liqueur adds a warming touch. The finish is long, sweet, and complex – less jam, more strudel filling in a jar.

We loved it for Christmas brunch, on milk rolls, and in porridge

The spread tastes good not only at Christmas time but all year round. Especially nice for Sunday brunch: a generous spoon on a warm milk roll, a hint of butter on top, with a coffee – and the whole family is at the table asking what smells so good. The spread also works wonderfully on freshly baked braided bread or yeast rolls.

We also like it in warm porridge: stir 2 tablespoons into your finished bowl of oatmeal, top with a few apple slices and toasted almonds, and you have a breakfast that tastes like a warm dessert. It's also a delight with natural yogurt with vanilla and honey, with quark and cinnamon, or as a topping on pancakes on the weekend. The children love it as a filling for homemade crumble muffins.

Our tip for Advent: a generous spoonful of apple strudel fruit spread as a filling for homemade shortbread pockets, as a topping on vanilla ice cream, or as a base for a quick apple strudel tart with puff pastry. The spread also makes a surprisingly good impression with a ripe mountain cheese and 40g of roasted walnuts – the sweetness breaks up the cheesy flavor. Uwe König, the apple strudel master builder from Oberberg

The Genussmanufaktur Königskind is the passion project of Uwe König and his wife Sabine. What started as a hobby in their home kitchen in 2005 grew into a full-time business in 2014 due to the increasing demand for their fruit spreads, chutneys, and mustards. To this day, all Königskind products are cooked in the kitchen under the "Ziegenbusch" (goat bush) in Wiehl – all by hand, in manageable quantities, with the care that only a small family manufactory can provide.

The Apple Strudel Fruit Spread is a Königskind specialty that is hardly found anywhere else in this form: Uwe König has transformed the classic strudel ingredients into a bread spread, from the breadcrumbs and almonds to the baked apple liqueur. He exclusively uses apples from the Oberberg region and consistently avoids artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and flavor enhancers. In addition to the Apple Strudel Fruit Spread, we also carry blackberry-peach, tipsy plum, and the red vineyard peach.
