Sal de Ibiza – Chips Salt & Vinegar – Potato Chips with Fleur de Sel and Vinegar
The Sal de Ibiza Chips with Salt & Vinegar are probably an homage to the English tourists on Ibiza, as chips or fries seasoned with vinegar are a typical English affair. What makes Sal de Ibiza Chips special is, on the one hand, the hand-cooked, wafer-thin potato chips made from Agria potatoes, and on the other hand, the Fleur de Sel and sherry vinegar, a vinegar from Jerez made from muscat grapes. This transforms plain potato chips into a gourmet delight of the highest order. Let yourself be surprised by the perfect sweet-sour balance.
Sal de Ibiza – the white gold
For more than 2,700 years, the best sea salt has been harvested from the salt flats of Ibiza. Even back then, the salt was highly coveted, as it was needed to preserve food. Ibiza even exported the salt to Greece or Italy. In 1235 AD, around 25,000 tons of salt were sold each year; salt was an important economic sector for the island. In 1871, two Mallorcan merchants bought the salt flats for the unimaginably high price of the equivalent of 9.15 million Euros. This shows that salt has always been an ambassador for the island of Ibiza.
