Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool - what's the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is partly (one quarter) made from virgin wool from the Gotland sheep, which was shorn by the Vikings who appreciated its high wool quality, and ¾ from lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is usually obtained from live sheep, preferably in one piece, in spring. After shearing, the wool is combed and fluffed before being wonderfully dyed blue and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be barely scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to make the blanket feel soft, which is why the lambswool is extra pre-combed. Nevertheless, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and the blanket sheds a little at the beginning.

The Gotland blanket can be wonderfully washed at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cozy blanket yourself when needed. To ensure your wool blanket lasts a long time, it's best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Remember that natural wool fat has a self-cleaning effect, and you will wash it out little by little with each wash. It is best to hang the Gotland blanket outside on the line to air out.
