Stekovics - Mulberry with Cherry Plum - Fruit Spread

The Stekovics Mulberry Fruit Spread is a delicious "mulberry jam" with a fruit content of 70%. Erich Stekovics uses the Pannonian climate on Lake Neusiedl for his fruits, where they ripen beautifully, and cooks this special berry in small kettles: the mulberry, together with cherry plums, which are wild, yellow plums. Erich Stekovics is dedicated to old varieties such as these old fruit types: mulberry and cherry plum. Mulberries resemble blackberries in appearance and shape, though they are longer and somewhat larger. Botanically, they are related to figs and belong to the genus Moraceae. In Europe, three varieties are common: white, black, and red mulberries. Here, they usually grow only on bushes. In suitable locations, which must be warm and sheltered from the wind, and have deep, calcareous soils, the bushes grow into large trees. The fruits can be harvested throughout the summer; they are sweet and juicy. However, because they are quite soft and too juicy to withstand transport without spoiling quickly, they are not suitable for fruit sales.
