Struzen Chips with Hazelnuts and Raisins – from South Tyrol
The crispy, fruity Ultner Brot Struzen Chips combine modern indulgence with the traditional South Tyrolean specialty, the fruit bread from the Ulten Valley. To produce the crunchy Struzen Chips, the traditional fruit bread is cut into thin slices and dried in the oven. In addition to crunchy hazelnuts and dried grapes, the aromatic rye dough of the Struzen Chips contains fennel, caraway, and subtly bitter blue fenugreek. Hannes Schwienhöfer uses both juicy, yellow sultanas and small, dark currants for the crispy bread slices. Apart from the sweetness of the dried fruit, no further sugar is added to the dough, so the Struzen Chips are not too sweet and pair well with savory dishes.
These crispy baked bread chips with hazelnuts and raisins enhance any snack, but also taste wonderful with tea. Struzen Chips can be enjoyed as a snack on their own or served in place of fresh bread with dips, cream cheese, chestnut soup, or green leaf salads. This crunchy snack tastes great with Kaminwurzen, salami, or mountain cheese, and with a South Tyrolean wine or a cool beer, Struzen Chips are an alpine delight.
Struzen Chips are naturally fragile. When shipped via parcel service, it is almost impossible to avoid breakage. Since breakage does not affect the quality or taste of the crispy bread slices, we generally do not accept complaints in this regard.
Ultner Brot – Traditional South Tyrolean Bakery
The love for baking and thus for good bread is a family affair for South Tyrol's number 1 organic baker. The traditional bakery was founded in 1919 by Maria Pircher-Schwienbacher in St. Walburg, South Tyrol, and has been an organic bakery since 1982. For master baker Hannes and his father Richard Schwienbacher, who unfortunately has passed away, baking is a holistic process: the best organic ingredients from regional cultivation, traditional artisanal processing, long resting times, and baking in a stone oven are prerequisites for the best bread. Because when it comes to the quality and unique taste of their baked goods, they make no compromises.
