Glacier Milk – the scent of the Alps
The barren Sellrain Valley in the Stubai Alps offered its inhabitants a spring as a livelihood: GLACIER MILK. Due to its hardness level, this crystalline, soft water from the Melach mountain stream was ideally suited for cleaning laundry. For over 200 years, the women, men, and children of the valley spent their days in their wash huts processing the linens of citizens' households from nearby Innsbruck in their ovens and tubs. On sunny summer days, the valley flanks and slopes would shine white with laundry spread out on the grass and hung between trees and shrubs. Wind and sun were meant to dry and bleach it, imbuing it with the incomparable scent of the valley. Some of the Sellrain farmers exchanged pure beef tallow for valuable soap at the Walde soap factory. Tiroler Reine soap combines the color of the glacier milk that fills the mountain streams during the snow and ice melt with the fragrance of grandmother's times.
Tiroler Reine – Bar Soap
Exquisite ingredients, at least 3 milling processes, and extraordinary alpine fragrances distinguish the Tiroler Reine soaps from the Walde company. Tiroler Reine chose shea butter as the basic substance for the soap, as there is no local plant-based soap base that even comes close to this quality. The shea butter from the nuts of the shea tree comes from Burkina Faso in West Africa. The nuts are collected as part of a women's project founded in 2009 called ABPJF (Association Burkinabé pour la Promotion de la Jeune Fille).
The special thing about the plant fat in shea butter is the high level of replenishment it provides when using the soap. Every bar of Tiroler Reine also disappears completely in the bathroom: thanks to the low water and air content, the soap does not break into small pieces when it has been used for some time, but remains a smooth, wonderfully fragrant piece of soap with a fine, creamy lather until the very end.
The fragrances of Tiroler Reine are masterfully composed scents that are inspired by nature.
Tiroler Reine, an idea by Therese Fiegl, is a soap that incorporates the centuries-old knowledge of the Walde soap-making family to create unique soaps. Each soap tells its own story, from the Sellrain washerwomen and the glacier milk, to the alpine rose and love, the forget-me-not, the resilience of the birch, the alpine valerian, cowslips as harbingers of spring, the freshness of mountain mint, to elderberry, which conveys protection and comfort.
